Sean Landess is an up and coming road racer out of Rancho Cucamonga, CA who turned heads at WSMC and WERA events in 2009. Sean competes at both regional and national levels on his 2009 Kawasaki Ninja 250R and is known for his competitive spirit, professional work ethic and his enthusiasm for racing. Sean is a fierce competitor on track, and in the pits he is recognized as a true sportsman.

Sean got his start in road racing on his 2004 Honda NSR50R in 2008 with SCminiGP where he won the 50cc championship his first season out. In 2009 Sean dominated the 50cc class again and claimed another #1 plate while at the same time racing his Ninja250 with WERA and WSMC. Sean finished the 2009 WERA West season with three consecutive race wins and hopes to build on that momentum going into the 2010 season.

In his first full season with expert classification, Sean intends on winning the #1 plate in the 2010 WSMC Ninja Cup. He also plans on winning the championship in the WERA West E Superstock and D Superstock classes. While focusing on WSMC and WERA West championships, Sean also plans on competing at the 2010 WERA Grand National Finals, non-conflicting AFM events, and SCminiGP and M1-GP mini racing events.
Latest News:

  • 5/23/10 - At the 5th round of the WERA west Sportsman Series at Miller Motorsports Park, the weather was windy and rainy. Sean seemed to be the only person in the pits who weathered the stormy nights in a tent, but that didn't bother him at all. Sean finished in 1st Place in both ESS and DSS classes. In the Clubman class Sean finished 2nd. Sean was battling a leaky front brake system that continued to fade throughout each race which made it difficult for him to push hard on corner entry. Sean had a fun battle with Brian Bourgeois and came out with a victory. With competitor Brian Bartlow absent from the event, Sean has now reclaimed the championship points lead in the E Superstock class over Brian Bartlow. Sean had fallen behind in points after the Buttonwillow round where Sean was unable to compete because of a broken drive chain.

  • 5/9/10 - Sean crashed in practice on Friday at Buttonwillow, damaging his bodywork and front brake reservoir cap that caused a fluid leak. Sean slightly injured his right shoulder, knee and ankle. Thanks to all the help from Brian Bartlow and the whole Feel Like A Pro team, Sean had his bike patched back together for the Solo race Saturday evening. In that race Sean got up to speed and was satisfied with his pace and pulled out of the race early because he had to use the restroom and couldn't hold it through the 20 lap race. On Sunday Sean's first race was the Clubman Expert class, and after 2 laps he lost his drive chain and was unable to finish. Without a suitable spare chain and so little time between races, Sean was unable to compete in the following ESS, and then the DSS race was canceled due to rain. Sean went home with no points from the Buttonwillow round but looks forward to making a comeback at the following round at Miller Motorsports Park in Utah.

  • 4/28/10 - Sean Landess would like to thank and welcome PowerBalance Performance Technologies as his newest sponsor for the 2010 season. PowerBalance bracelets and pendants use holographic technology to help increase focus, stability, energy and overall performance for both athletes and non-athletes. Sean has confirmed that Powerbalance has helped him perform better on the race track as well as in training on his bicycle and at the gym. Sean is very happy and proud to be part of the PowerBalance family.

  • 4/17/10 - With ideal weather conditions and the help of a PowerBalance bracelet, Sean Landess was able to beat his personal best lap time at Willow Springs International Raceway by over a second. Sean completed multiple laps under 1:40sec in both the 500 Superstock and 500 Modified Production Classes with a best time of 1:39.2. In the Ninja Cup race the wind picked up and Sean was unable to match his pace from the earlier races but still finished in 2nd place behind Wes Totsubo. It was the first time Sean had ever tried Powerbalance Performance Technology, and he now truly believes in the benefits of Powerbalance products.

  • 3/21/10 - It was a beautiful weekend for racing at Willow Springs International Raceway this past weekend. Sean arrived on Saturday for PM practice at the "Fastest Road in the West" with high hopes for achieving his third consecutive win in the NinjaCup expert class. He knew it wouldn't be a simple task because 2008 & 2009 NinjaCup champion Wes Totsubo was set to contest the race as he had been absent for the first two rounds of 2010. Just to raise the stakes a bit more, this weekend was for double points.

In the two practice sessions on Saturday Sean struggled to get up to pace. His best time in practice was a 1:41.8 which was 0.9 seconds off of his personal best and not nearly good enough to take victory on Sunday. After practice was finished Sean Decided to walk the 2.5 mile road course for his first time ever and gained some valuable insight. While camping with his father on that chilly Saturday night, Sean analyzed each corner thoroughly in his head looking for ways to shave at least a second or hopefully more. Sean made a plan of attack and was confident that he could match or beat his personal lap record on Sunday considering the ideal weather conditions.

On Sunday morning Sean used the first practice session to get warmed up while the track surface was doing the same. In the second practice session Sean found the second he was looking for with a 1:40.8 lap time, 0.1 seconds better than his previous personal record. Sean was confident that he could get his lap times down even further with proper execution, and felt good about the coming races.

In the 500 superstock class Sean was off to a good start battling with FZR400s and other bikes that over powered his little Ninja. On the second lap Sean was left no room in turn 9 and was forced off of the track at high speed. Luckily he was able to keep it on two wheels and rode through hot pit lane where he scrubbed the dirt from his tires and reentered the track. From there Sean was on a mission to regain positions and executed a last lap pass in turn 4 to get himself into 5th position. Despite his misfortunes in that race, Sean set a new record for himself with a 1:40.6 lap time.

When it came time for the NinjaCup race, the wind had finally picked up. Sean was gridded on pole position with Richart Barnett and Josh Fogle on the front row. Totsubo was gridded on the second row and got an amazing jump off of the line. Going into turn one Sean was third behind Totsubo and Fogle. In turn two Sean was passed by Barnett and going into turn three Sean didn't see any room to pass. On the exit of turn 4B Barnett lost rear grip and went down putting Sean back into 3rd. Sean got a good drive down the hill and through turn 5 which helped him catch up to Fogle on the back straight-away and led to a pass on the inside of Fogle in turn 8. From there Sean did his best to catch Totsubo but was unable to do so. Sean finished the race in 2nd place and still maintained his position as points leader in the class.

The 500 modified production class was the last race of the day and had mostly the same racers as the 500 superstock class. The wind had picked up even more by then, and Sean knew it would be tough to get onto the podium. In a mostly uneventful race Sean finished in 6th position in 500 modprod and ended the day in good spirits.

  • 2/21/10 - Sean Austin Landess rode an impressive Ninja Cup race at WSMC's 2nd round at the Streets of Willow in Rosamond, CA. Sean finished 1st by 7 seconds ahead of veteran Ninja 250 racers Brian Bartlow and Richard Barnett. Sean had only been on the Streets of Willow track once before the Sunday race, but felt confident that he could maintain a competitive pace going into the weekend. Logistical problems prevented Sean from practicing on Saturday before the race. When he arrived Sunday morning, he made a last minute decision to not practice in the morning sessions in an effort to preserve his nearly-worn-out Michelin Power1 rear tire. Sean used his first race in the 500 Superstock class as a warm-up for the Ninja Cup. In 500ss Sean was under powered on his Ninja 250, placing 6th out of 9 racers behind 3 kids on 125GP bikes and 2 FZR400s. When it was time for the Ninja Cup, Sean started from the first row of the grid. He got a good start edging out everyone except Josh Fogle. After getting a great drive out of turn two on the first lap, Sean made a pass up the inside of Josh in turn 3 for the lead and rode his own race from there on. On the second lap Sean's worn-out B compound rear started sliding quite a bit on the entrance of the big bowl right-hand turn but the left side of the tire was still in great shape. Sean continued to push the pace through the third lap and then took a look back to see he was holding a commanding lead over 2nd place finisher Brian Bartlow. Sean knew he would still have to maintain a quick pace if he was to hold off Brian, but he knew the most important thing was keeping it on two wheels. So Sean began nursing the bike through the bowl while pushing hard in all of the left hand turns. In the end Sean crossed the finish line first. Sean is leading the points battle in the WSMC Ninja Cup after two rounds of racing. We had an amazing turnout with 23 Kawasaki Ninja 250s showing up to race, 7 experts and 16 novices. With such a large group of novices, it looks like next year we could have some massive grids in the expert class.
